Europe's first ever solar-powered train is being launched in Belgium.
The energy comes from 16,000 solar panels, installed on the roof of a rail tunnel running along an Antwerp motorway. The panels produce enough electricity to power all of Belgium's trains for one day per year.
A
joint public-private partnership, the project is partly financed by
Belgium's rail network manager and is expected to prevent considerable
carbon dioxide emissions
